Granted, triple monitor setups are preferable for these purposes, otherwise, the bezels of your two displays are going to be exactly in the middle of the image. This can really ruin immersion.

In theory, you can actually pick any two monitors and pair them together, because they will still work. However, having a 24” display next to a 32” one doesn’t look very pretty, and it’s also basically impossible to play anything on both of them at the same time.

• Try to go for the thinnest bezels possible. There are plenty of monitors out there that have very thin bezels, and it helps a lot with the transition between the two displays. This is especially true while gaming.
• Make sure your monitors have the same native resolution and refresh rate. If one of your monitors is capable of 120Hz and the other can only go up to 60Hz, then you will be stuck with 60Hz on both if you want to use them as a single display.
• Check the input options and the output ports on your GPU. While most modern monitors usually have both HDMI and DisplayPort inputs, it’s still a good idea to check before making a purchase. In addition, you should also know that top-of-the-line GPUs usually have only one HDMI port, so keep that in mind.
• Make sure your hardware can handle two displays. Even if your PC is powerful enough to run your games with one monitor, doubling the horizontal resolution takes a significant toll on your hardware. More pixels means more work for your GPU.
• Check if the monitors can be adjusted using the built-in stands. If not, you may want to look into buying a pair of monitor arms as well, which can be a rather expensive endeavor.

How to Set Up Your Dual Monitors

Things get a bit tricky here because the process of setting up the monitors can depend on your GPU. However, you can definitely achieve this using the Windows settings alone, so it’s not mandatory to use Nvidia or AMD utilities.

Setting Up Two Monitors Using the Display Settings in Windows

Windows allows you to quickly set up your displays using the built-in “Display Settings” utility. However, you should know that these steps may vary depending on your Windows version. Not only that, but older versions may not have this functionality at all. The instructions below work on Windows 10.

1. Hook up both displays to your GPU using the appropriate ports. In this case, it doesn’t matter if one monitor uses HDMI and the other uses DisplayPort unless both monitors require DisplayPort for the additional bandwidth needed for high refresh rates. Also, this step is the same regardless of what kind of GPU you have.
2. Right-click on your desktop and select “Display settings”. If the monitors are connected properly, both of them should be detected. If for some reason one of them does not show up, you can use the “Detect” button in order to perform a quick scan.
3. Arrange the displays in the correct order. This is achieved by dragging the desired display in the “Rearrange your displays” section at the top of the window. In theory, this should not be necessary if you connect the monitors to your GPU in the right order.
4. Adjust the scaling if needed. For this kind of setup, the scaling should not be an issue, except of course if you are using 4K monitors. If that’s the case, you can increase the UI scaling in order to protect your eyes from unnecessary strain.
5. Pick the resolution. Windows should automatically select the native resolution for both displays, but you can also change it manually if for some reason things go wrong.
6. Select the desired orientation for each display. If you want the two monitors side-by-side, both of them should use the “Landscape” orientation. If you have one of them rotated by 90 degrees, then select that display and use the “Portrait” orientation.
7. Select the multiple display mode. In this case, you need to choose “Extend these displays” in order to avoid duplicating the main one.
8. Choose the main display. This is going to be the default display used whenever you start an app or a video game, so make sure you pick the one that’s best suited for these purposes.
9. Apply the changes and enjoy your new dual monitor setup!

Setting Up Two Monitors Using the Nvidia Control Panel

If you have an Nvidia GPU you can also set up your monitors using the Nvidia Control Panel. The results are not in any way different than what you get if you use the default Windows tools, so it’s really up to your preferences.

1. Right-click on your desktop and select “Nvidia Control Panel”
2. From the left menu select “Set up multiple displays”
3. Select both of your displays from the list of available monitors. If for some reason one of the displays does not show up, you can use the “My display is not shown” link in order to scan for hardware changes.
4. Drag the icons in order to get the monitors in the right order. This also allows you to select the main display that’s going to be used when launching apps or games.

Setting Up Two Monitors Using the AMD Eyefinity Tool

In case you own an AMD GPU, the process of setting up two monitors can also be achieved using the proprietary Eyefinity tool that’s part of the AMD driver suite.

1. Right-click on your desktop and select “AMD Radeon Settings”
2. Click the “Eyefinity” button
3. Click on the “Quick Setup” button. You should know that Eyefinity will use your Windows Display Settings configuration in order to create a new display group. As such, it’s important to do that step first.
4. If your displays are not in the correct order after the Eyefinity Display Group is created, you can use the “Arrange Displays” button in order to manually move them around.
5. Although this step is not mandatory, you can also click on the “Try Advanced Setup” button in order to access more advanced settings. This section also allows you to change the default main display, as well as to position the Windows taskbar and adjust the image for the bezel compensation.

After you manage to get everything working properly you can jump straight into your games and start playing, right? Well, almost. There are some things you should be aware of, especially if you want to avoid glitches or other annoyances.

To begin with, if you are only using one monitor for gaming and the second one for other things, then it’s important to go into the game’s settings and choose the “Borderless Window” rendering mode instead of “Fullscreen”. This allows you to quickly switch tabs and interact with apps on your secondary monitor without Windows minimizing your game every time you click on something.

However, you cannot multitask while gaming on an ultrawide, because you have to Alt-Tab in order to check up on your other apps. What If One Monitor Has G-Sync/FreeSync and the Other One Doesn’t?

This was only an issue back when these technologies were first introduced. Nowadays the bugs have been fixed and it really doesn’t matter if you pair a G-Sync monitor with a regular one. Naturally, you will see the difference between them while dragging stuff from one monitor to the other, but that’s to be expected.

How Can I Play Games in Fullscreen Mode on a Dual Monitor Setup?

You don’t actually have to do anything different in order to play games in the Fullscreen mode on one of your displays. However, having a game in Fullscreen mode means that your cursor won’t be able to move from one monitor to the other while playing. This can actually be a good thing in shooters, otherwise you would click on things by mistake when your cursor switches from one monitor to the other.

It’s also important to note that, visually, there’s no difference between Fullscreen and Borderless Window. Both look the same, but the functionality is different.

Подключение 2-х мониторов

Как правило, с современным системным блоком (в котором установлена типовая “не обрезанная” видеокарта*, вышедшая после 2010г.) — проблемы с подключением 2-3-х мониторов возникают не так уж часто.

Дело в том, что на подавляющем большинстве видеокарт есть как минимум 3-4 видео-разъема: DVI, VGA или HDMI �� (в последние пару лет также можно встретить USB Type C или Thunderbolt).

И, разумеется, для подключения еще одного монитора — достаточно соединить его видео-разъем с разъемом на видеокарте. ��

Поддержка нескольких мониторов (спецификация видеокарты GTX 1080 Ti)

* Примечание : обратите внимание на спецификацию видеокарты (ее можно найти на офиц. сайте производителя ��). В ее описании должна быть характеристика: “Поддержка нескольких дисплеев” (на англ.: “Multi Monitor”).

Настройка работы 2-х мониторов в Windows

Когда все видео-кабели соединены и аппаратно всё подключено — необходимо “отрегулировать” несколько программных моментов.

В параметрах Windows 10 рекомендуется указать разрешение , масштаб , ориентацию и пр. опции для каждого из подключенного монитора (что логично, т.к. каждый монитор уникален и требует своей “до-настройки” по месту, чтобы не уставали глаза. ).

Для изменения этих настроек — нажмите сочетание Win+i (или “ПУСК / Параметры”) и перейдите в раздел “Система / дисплей” (��). Далее вы сможете изменить вышеперечисленные параметры.

Кстати, обратите внимание, что есть несколько вариантов проецирования :

• показывать изображение только на одном из мониторов;
• показывать одинаковое изображение на 2-х мониторах;
• расширить рабочий стол на 2 монитора: чтобы на каждый из них можно было вывести своё изображение.

Стоит также сказать, что для быстрого изменения проецирования в Windows есть спец. боковая панелька: для ее вызова нужно нажать сочетание клавиш Win+P.

�� К ноутбуку

Здесь может быть несколько вариантов.

На некоторых ноутбуках есть два видео-разъема (и, разумеется, можно “без особых проблем” подключить 2 монитора).

Например, на фото ниже представлен ноутбук марки MSI GS75, у которого есть HDMI-порт и USB-С (он может работать как видеовыход, т.к. помечен пиктограммой Thunderbolt 3).

Собственно, один монитор подключаем �� обычным образом к HDMI, а второй — к этому USB-С (для некоторых дисплеев может понадобиться переходник). Что касается программной настройки — то она аналогична вышеприведенной.

HDMI и USB Type С (вид ноутбука сбоку)

Если двух видеовыходов на ноутбуке нет — понадобиться спец. адаптер (своего рода аналог внешней видеокарты). Подключается он к одному из USB-портов ноутбука, и способен выдавать FullHD разрешение по HDMI-интерфейсу (см. фото ниже).

Такие адаптеры можно найти и приобрести в �� китайских онлайн-магазинах (AliExpress, например).

Важно : среди подобных адаптеров есть разные модификации — некоторые из них могут просто дублировать изображение ноутбука (т.е. “расширить” экран с помощью них нельзя). При покупке см. внимательно описание.

Собственно, далее один монитор подключается к такому вот адаптеру, а второй — к обычному HDMI-порту на корпусе ноутбука. Кстати, по такому же принципу можно подключить и 3-й монитор. ��

Что касается программных настроек — то они также аналогичны вышеприведенным. Фото ниже в качестве примера (��).

Также к ноутбуку можно подключить дисплей по Wi-Fi (беспроводной способ). Т.к. способ универсален, я его вынес в отдельный раздел статьи (см. ниже ��).

�� Беспроводное подключение дисплея

Этот способ актуален как для ноутбука, так и для стационарного компьютера.

Правда, сразу стоит сделать оговорку : подключить можно в качестве доп. дисплея другой ноутбук, моноблок, компьютер и пр. устройства (т.е. соединяемся мы не на прямую с монитором, а с другим компьютером, который и будет передавать картинку на свой дисплей).

Например, я иногда подключаю к своему офисному ПК небольшой ноутбук: на него можно вывести просмотр фильма, музыки и пр. штук ( это удобно : проводов нет, в любой момент его можно отключить и убрать).

If you are going to buy a second monitor, try to make sure that both the monitors are the same model. This ensures seamless integration and esthetics for the streaming setup. That being said, if you do want to get different monitors with varying capabilities and features, make sure they at least have the same height, so stacking them parallel with each other will be easier.

If you are a streamer on a budget, we suggest that you get a 144 Hz monitor for your gaming needs and a 60 Hz monitor to read chat and control your stream.

2) Availability of HDMI ports

Make sure that your graphics card has the required number of HDMI and/or display ports. If you do not have the right ports, you might have to resort to adapters, for example an HDMI splitter that converts a single HDMI input and splits it separately to two monitors.

3) Does the hardware support multiple screens?

If you don’t have a dedicated graphics card, note that you will most likely not be able to set up two monitors. However, some intel processors with integrated graphics and specific motherboards support multi-monitor usage. So try and find specific information on your hardware before making the decision to invest in a second monitor.

Step 1) The foremost step is to make sure that everything is plugged in properly and powered up. Plug in your monitor specific cables into the same port of the graphics card.

Step 2) Now, simply boot up your PC. You may not get output from the second screen at this point. Wait till you are logged in, and the second screen should show. If you still do not have output from the second monitor, ensure that your cables are securely plugged in, and also update your Windows and graphics drivers.

Change Windows’ Display settings

Once your second monitor is recognized, it is essential to tell Windows how the two monitors will work in unison.

Step 1) Right-click on the desktop and select ‘Display settings.’

Step 2) You will now have the Display settings showing the two monitors as 1 and 2. Change the order of these displays accordingly. With this, you can set a specific monitor to be recognized on either left or right.

Step 3) The next major step is to tweak the Multiple Displays option. This option will specify how the desktop is displayed between the two monitors. Click on the drop-down list and select the option best suited for you. We recommend choosing the ‘Extend These Displays’ option since it allows multitasking, which is essential for streamers.

Step 4) Select your primary display by clicking on the desired monitor above, and select the ‘Make This My Main Display’ option.
