How to Install Mods
The Sims 4 has many unofficial mods and Custom Content that you can install to expand upon or improve gameplay, such as texture mods, new hairstyles and eye colors, custom houses, and more. This page teaches you everything you need to know about How to Install Mods in TS4 and where to find CC on PC and Mac.

Note: Mods are currently not supported on PlayStation or Xbox, just PC and Mac.
Where to Find The Sims 4 Mods
There are thousands of websites that offer Custom Content for TS4. Some focus solely on certain things like appearance mods or furniture, while some have everything. So it can be confusing and sometimes overwhelming to know where to look.
These are our favorite websites for CC that offer everything:
Before downloading and installing anything, make sure it’s compatible with your version of the game otherwise you run the risk of crashes and/or corruption.
I’ve downloaded my desired mods and CC and I’m ready to install them!
Installing The Sims 4 Mods
Finding Your Mods Folder
Before you start installing mods and CC, you need to locate your Mods folder. This is where you need to place your downloaded content for your game to be able to read and install it—if you put it anywhere else, it won’t work. Content that ends in the .package file extension goes here.
- Windows – /Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods
- Mac – /Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods
If for some reason you don’t see a Mods folder in your directory, you can create the folder yourself.
Lots and Sims are the exception to the rule and are not placed in the Mods folder. Instead, they’re put in the Tray folder. This is also in your /Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4 directory.
You’ll know your content needs to go in the Tray folder if the file extension is .blueprint, .trayitem, or .bpi.
Now that you’ve located your Mods folder, unzip your downloaded content if needed. Then, simply copy your .package, .blueprint, .trayitem, or .bpi to the /Mods or /Tray folder. If you want to organize your CC by type, you can create folders inside the main folder, e.g. Hairstyles, Jewelry.

Turning Mods On
Once you’ve placed all your mods in the correct folder, it’s time to boot your game. Start The Sims 4 and go to Options > Game Options > Other. You’ll see a checkbox that says “Enable Custom Content and Mods“—tick it! Now restart your game.
Make sure you go back to this menu and check if the box is still ticked after every game update as it can sometimes turn itself off after a patch, disabling your mods and CC.
A menu should pop up every time you start The Sims 4, confirming the mods you want to use with your game. You can also turn Custom Content off from this menu if you decide you don’t want to play with certain ones in this session.
To find Custom Content easily when in-game, check off the “Show Custom Content” box in the catalog, Gallery, or Lots menus. This will filter all your downloaded content so you don’t have to scroll endlessly to try and locate it.
I’ve successfully downloaded and installed mods and Custom Content, yay!
