Farming Simulator 19 – Starting Guide

The choice of tractors in Farming Simulator 19 is really big. Find out what are the requirements that your tractor needs to meet.

PMC Farming Simulator 19 Guide

Please read FS17 Guide first as we do not repeat the same stuff here unless it has been changed.

Gameplay Tips User Interface

You can resize the user interface UI from the main menu options (not while game, ie savegame is running), like if you want to make it obnoxiously large or very tiny you can do that now. Nothing better than the new transparent UI style which is reduced in size, you hardly need hide HUD mod after this heh. If you make the UI smallest possible, it also makes 9 key map windows quite small.

Difficulty Options

Three different game modes for three difficulty levels at the same time.

  • Easy – New farmer
  • Normal – Farm-Manager
  • Hard – Start from scratch

New farmer: start with basic farm, fields, vehicles and equipment. Quite limited, small scale I would say. By default adds random amount of crops into your farm silos at career start.

Farm-manager: start with nothing except 1.250 million of money. You need to decide what land and vehicles to buy. Multiplayer farm manager mode starts with 250,000 loan (so 1 million of own money).

Start from scratch: start with nothing and very limited money, prices (and vehicle maintenance costs?) are the most expensive.

Note: you can achieve the same thing by editing savegame directorys XML files like if you want to create “start from scratch” game mode for easy difficulty level. Considering this, the only unique or special thing in the new career game modes is the difficulty level.

Difficulty level for economy can be changed at any time from the in-game menu while playing.

Plowing

You only need to plough after harvesting corn or sugar cane etc odd crops, there is no more plowing after every third harvest (thats for lime, see below). If you do not plant these odd crops then you never need to plow your fields.

Lime

You can see lime field status on the map-view. Lime is a product which you purchase and spread to your fields using solid fertilizer spreader. Lime must be spread before seeding.

Using stock game Bredal spreader expends lime at incredible high rate, all you do is drive to refill heh. Note: if you use variable spray mod you can tweak lime spreading to game-play enjoyable level.

Seeding

Crops Growth

Refer to FS17. And to note that even the same buggy or bad design for crops growth is still there where half of your field can have different growth stage.

Crop growth stages and weeds are switched through the terrain from north to south (top to down) direction and it does not matter when did you seed/plant, you could be even seeding at the moment the switch happens and then half of your field switches while you’re still seeding the second half.

These events are triggered according to time, it depends how many hours one growth stage is per crops (this can be configured by terrain developer). Once the time is up growth stage or weeds are switched.

You cant do anything about it, like choose the right time to seed/plant. Well unless you use growth control mod which shows you how many hours for the next growth stage switch, then guess you could wait until it happens before starting seeding if its important to you to avoid the half field growing while you’re still seeding. Also Seasons mod completely removes crops growth issues when using real/normal game time (I have played with seasons since its release and yet to see mixed crop growth).

This is no big deal once you understand how it works. It is what it is, maybe giants comes up with better way to handle this like individual field basis in the future, until that, just know how it works and deal with it.

For large terrains (over 3km and especially those larger than 10km) in singleplayer when you time accelerate the field growth stages switch somewhat oddly especially on large terrain size, but on multiplayer it is even worse because on top of the odd stage switching you still have the regular MP field state desync going on. Basically you have to run back and forth across your field you are waiting to switch stages. Extremely annoying.

Obviously same applies as in single player that if you’re in no hurry to use time acceleration this is no issue.

Weeds

Weeds grow on fields after harvest, they take away nutrients from your actual crops so therefore are very harmful for the yield. You must kill weeds either mechanically by a weeder or chemically by a herbicide sprayer.

You can see weed status from map-view soil composition, field with weeds in it is marked as pink color.

If weeds grow too large along with your crops, you cannot get rid of them with the mechanical weeder implement. If night is upon us and you want to skip time / sleep until morning but you have crops growing when weeds have not broke out yet, think twice before sleeping as over night the weeds can break out AND you crops get fully grown harvest ready before you have time to take care of the weeds.

You cannot see (easily or maybe at all) weeds on field that is on the first two growth stages, you must check soil composition colors for a pink color to spot weeds.

You cannot spray a field if its darker “wet” color, either herbicide or fertilizer.

If you herbicide spray so your field turns darker color and next try to spread/spray fertilizer it does not work. The dark “wet” field color is a good marker of when you cannot fertilize. Its the same other way around if you first fertilize you cannot immediately herbicide spray you must cultivate or spread lime or wait for crop growth stage to switch in between.

So after you harvest, first fertilize. You can obviously herbicide spray -> cultivate -> fertilize as usual. It is recommended to herbicide spray when you get crop green plants growth stage switch.

Seed Pallets

Refer to FS17. With exception that now you can unload fertilizer / seeder and pallets are created next to it.

Seed Placeables

Several mod makers released seed placeables and Giants Software finally put out their official refill stations in 2019-01-31. Place it down and refill your seed tanks. Note: Refilling using Giants Software seed placeable will cost you a higher price for seed than buying it in BigBags at the Shop and they do not include lime. Lime placeable is not included possibly due ravenport and felsbrunn having hardcoded lime station in the terrain.

Seed Tenders

There is now a official game vehicle as seed tender which we did not have in FS17. You can use grain carts as seed tenders just as in FS17.

Unloading Fertilizer/Seeder

You can now unload your fertilizer, seeder and lime spreader. When you unload them there will be pallet(s) created next to the implement which you can then refill back to the same or other implements etc.

Train

On un-modded game ravenport terrain the train will loop constantly, every time you want to use the train it will be on different location. You can transfer crops with the train.

Trailer

Fertilizing

There are only two levels of fertilization.

Buying / Selling Equipment and Vehicles

Placeables for Money

No such things in FS19 v1.1 release.

Placeable Buildings

A huge change in FS19 compared to the previous games is that you build your own farm using placeables. Terrain developers know that even the sell points are actually placeables just configured through XML files meaning they are not placed into terrain i3d as objects anymore. This is a great new feature to have which gives so much more freedom to players, assuming terrain developer did not place any farm objects.

Your own farm house is just an decorative object with the sleep option. Sleep is simply 5000x time acceleration with the optional how many hours to sleep dialog. It is nice, but to have 350,000 euro costing huge object for it is total overkill, better to use fast forward type time acceleration mod instead.

Farm silo (and farm silo extension) placeables are to hold your grain. Most properly developed terrains do not include farm silos anymore and it is up to players how they want to build their farms including placing down farm silos, with obvious exception being many real world data terrains.

Selling placeable buildings is done from garage (P), just select the object you want to remove/sell and hit the sell key (ENTER). If you are using mod placeables and are very lazy, you can simply leave the placeable mod(s) out when loading a savegame and then they do not appear in-game, however its recommended to just sell them normally.

Contracts / Missions

Please refer to contracts page for further details.

Vehicle Maintenance

You can repair vehicles even when they are being used in the fields. Go to garage (P), select your vehicle and then you get the option to repair it (default key X), it costs money but at least the slowing down vehicle starts to operate at normal speeds again.

Adding New Mods

Never ever add brand new mod to your important career savegame, no matter how reputable mod authors release it is, always test new mods on some brand new savegame where you cannot lose any progress if a mod has errors and ruins your savegame.

Ambient Birds

v1.2 has a bug or rather engine issue that makes the wildlife birds and even your pet dog to walk on vertical walls and roofs of placeables. We will see if this gets fixed in the future. Just wanted to let you know that yes this is a known engine v1.2 bug / issue and not related to any modders editing.

Liquid Transport

Liquid transport in FS19 stock vehicles do not include anything for liquid fertilizer or herbicide transport. You can purchase liquid fertilizer pallets and then load them into low loader for transport but that is not really a liquid transport in the sense we are talking about here. You should search for FS19 mods for a nice liquid transport solution.

Fuel Transport. Thundercreek FST990 capacity is 3750 liters, can be pulled with giants pickup 1978 model just fine. On level straight road pickup reaches 121km/h but across fields its merely half of that.

Slurry Spreader

Slurry transport. Stock vehicles in the slurry tanks category offer Garant Kotte FRC field container with 55,000 liter capacity, Garant Kotte TSA 30000 tanker trailer for trucks to pull with 30,000 liter capacity.

You can park the field container to the field you are fertilizing, then transport slurry from your slurry pit into this container using tanker trailer.

The downside of slurry spreader is that there are no narrow tire options, it will cut crops. Also game-play related downside is that while in FS17 slurry spreading was viable option and fun, now in FS19 giants have totally ruined with the rate its expended, you literally go from 100% to 50% capacity under a minute, totally crazy.

Purchasing Fields With Crops

Actually this should be “purchasing LAND with fields which have crops”

I purchased Midwest Horizon F77 for 684.3k, this field is 32.68ha in size (land lot is 34.63ha). It had weeded and unfertilized soybeans growing, when harvested the yield was 219,054 liters.

If we calculate lets say 3750 market price the amount of money the crop was worth, it comes to 219 x 3750 == 821.2k, then if we subtract the field price 684.3k – 821.2k == 136,950k final outcome.

I don’t know why anyone would want to buy a land lot without soybeans growing on it, the harvested crop will pay the land for you.

Farming Simulator 19 – Starting Guide

Whether you are a seasoned veteran of the series or a new player who wants to give farming a go, there is a fair amount of complexity to the game. Our guide can help you get off on the right foot by making sure that your farm has a solid foundation off of which you can build and become a successful option.

In this chapter we present the most important tips and curiosities from Farming Simulator 19. Many of them are related to the changes introduced in this part of the game compared to the previous parts, and many others will help fresh players who have not had much contact with the series so far.

Lease Machines

When you are starting out in the game, leasing machines can bring you huge benefits.

Although you cannot really justify leasing machines towards the later stages of the game due to the fact that they cannot be upgraded or modified, leasing will ensure that you do not have to spend a lot of money in order to get your hands on good farming equipment.

Riding on Plants

Remember that just like in real life, you will destroy plants if you ride on top of them. This option can be disabled from the menu if you feel like the game becomes too difficult with it.

If you want to ensure that the plants do not destroy each other, remember that you must fertilize the field before you start planting. You also need to fertilize the plants once again when you are in the first phase of growth.

Only then try to weed them – otherwise you will lose part of your harvest.

Weeding

You can only weed your plants during the first and the second growth phase. Make sure that you do not forget to weed out your crops or your yield can be up to 20% less due to all of the weeds.
Sprayingweeds instead of using weeders will not protect you from the possibility of weeds rising later.

When to Buy Fields?

You can buy nearby fields that are being farmed on by AI players. The best way to do that is to wait until a field has been cultivated and the crop has been planted on it.Wait for a new plot of land until the crop is harvested on it – you will be able to harvest it for yourself right away. This way, you do not have to waste your time and resources planting the crops and can instead reap the harvest much sooner than you would otherwise be able to.

Harvester and Straws

When harvesting grain – wheat, rye, barley or oats – the harvester leaves behind a lot of straw. You can harvest it with a loading wagon or make bales out of it. The straw can then either be used in animal husbandry or be sold as it is.

Make sure to turn it off in your combine harvester if you do are not planning on collecting it or it will end up blocking other important operations that are being performed.

Resetting Vehicles

Sometimes, even the best of players can end up overturning their vehicles or other devices. When this happens, the only option you have is the rest button. You can access the reset button from the map. It is found right next to the store button.

Remember that if you reset your vehicle, you will end up losing everything that was in it, even your fuel.
It is worth to build machinery shelters – they will help you to better organize the space for left-over machines / raw materials and crops. But be careful: if you build structures on uneven ground, you will pay much more money.

Storing Crops

At the start of the game, you will not have your own storage space. You can store your crops in the public silos found near the railway tracks or on the ground.

This has no charge so you can save your money for farm expansions and upgrades. Remember that some of the crops cannot be lifted unless you have spoons and stripe systems (root crops are one example of this).

Farming Simulator 19: Tractors, trucks Farming Simulator 19 Guide and Tips

Tracktors in Farming Simulator 19 are divided into three categories: light (up to 150 hp), medium (up to 250 hp) and heavy (over 250 hp). They differ mainly in the power of the engine, but also in speed, size or even weight (a parameter not provided by the game, but visible during machine operation). In each category of tractors described below, we have chosen the most interesting models, those with the best price-to-quality ratio and those offering interesting functions.

  • What should I pay attention to when buying a tractor?
  • Light Tractors
  • Medium Tractors
  • Heavy Tractors
  • Trucks
  • Pickups

What should I pay attention to when buying a tractor?

The choice of tractors in Farming Simulator 19 is really big. Find out what are the requirements that your tractor needs to meet.

  1. When buying a tractor, pay particular attention to the power of the tractor and possibility of upgrading the engine. Some tractors, thanks to improvements, can increase their power output twofold. It’s a good idea to invest in tractors that can be upgraded and developed for a long time. Note: Machines purchased under the leasing option cannot be modified at a later time – only upon purchase.
  2. The second parameter is the maximum speed. It is important, but rather for tractors with a specific application: for tractors that you will use for additional work (e.g. when logging trees) or transport, it is advisable to choose high speeds. However, if the main task of the tractor is ploughing, it does not have to be characterized by high speed. Note that any modification of the tractor engine always increases the maximum speed by 3km/h. Some work can be done at high speed, e.g. spraying – use fast tractors for this purpose.
  3. Check what’s on the front: the lack of a mounting bracket in the front will prevent you from working with heavy machines (if you don’t have a weight installed) and sometimes using several machines at the same time. On this occasion, also note whether it has a yellow shaft (PTO shaft) in addition to the bracket, which makes it possible to operate machines that do not have their own motor. Sometimes a weight is mounted at the front: sometimes it is a good solution (you don’t have to buy and install them yourself), but at the same time you lose a bracket and the weight has a fixed value.
  4. Front loader – it’s a good idea for at least one of your tractors to have a front loader holder in the early stages of the game. This way you can load pallets, bales or trees with your tractor without having to buy a special vehicle for this purpose.
  5. Traction and steering – this parameter is never directly indicated. Some tractors, for example, have a smaller turning radius, making them turn faster in the field and easier to control (watch how far away the wheels are on the axle – they usually will be capable of a larger twist). In addition, some tractors have rear swivel wheels (e.g. all JCBs), which also improves their mobility. However, the tracks are the most mobile option – but these are designed only for the most expensive vehicles (and they often limit the maximum speed).
  6. Note also the fact that heavy-duty tractors do not have the option of fitting narrow wheels! They rarely have the option of mounting front loaders.

Light Tractors

Fiat 1300 DT.

The Fiat 1300 DT is one of the old, almost historic tractors. It the second or third greatest power in the light tractor category but:

  1. No additions or extensions (it has a pin at the front instead of a 3-point connection);
  2. Very big turning radius and small mobility;
  3. Very low maximum speed;
  4. Poor lights.

It is only suitable for simple but heavy work (e.g. ploughing) with basic, inexpensive equipment.

Fendt 500 Favorit.

The Fendt brand is worth mentioning in this category: the 500 Favorit model has a front attacher, loader mounting capability and a decent speed (50km/h). However, the most important thing is that you can upgrade the engine up to 150 hp.

Lindner Lintrac 90.

The Lindner Lintrac 90 is another nice tractor in this size category. It is a very small, weak but also very maneuverable tractor (with rear swivel wheels). Why pay attention to it? It’s great as a small loader: it’s very mobile and certainly a better choice than the basic loader: Kramer KL30.8T , which is weaker, uses the same loader attachment and costs $60,000 with much smaller capabilities offered.

Medium Tractors

CaseIH 7200 Pro Series.

The most interesting middle class tractor for those with a limited budget is the first model: CaseIH 7200 Pro Series . It’s the perfect starter tractor that will serve for a long time, as its 170 hp engine can be upgraded to 261 hp. And for its price it offers a decent speed (40 km/h) and a front attachment.

Valtra T Series.

Of the more expensive tractors, it is worth taking interest only in models with a power of 200+ hp. The most interesting tractor in this group is the Valtra T Series , priced at $175,000. It has parameters similar to all tractors in this price range: speed of 50 km/h, front attacher and front loader mounting, but most of all: change of direction. This means you can turn the driver’s seat (as shown in the picture above) and drive the vehicle comfortably at full speed in the opposite direction. This significantly expand the possibilities of using the machine:

  1. In the inverted configuration, you turn the rear wheels to make turning easier,
  2. The weight of the machine is shifted towards the direction of travel – heavy equipment often does not require the use of weights,
  3. You can connect machines at the front and rear to drive through the field lane in one operation, turn around and do the other immediately.

JCB Fastrac 4220.

JCB Fastrac 4220 is the fastest tractors in this category. It travels at 62 km/h, which makes it ideal for transport; the cost is $196,000. In addition, it has four steering wheels and the ability to attach a front loader. If you don’t want to invest in a truck tractor, use this tractor to transport machines from the store or trailers with raw materials for sale.

Heavy Tractors

John Deere 7R Series.

Once again, the cheapest John Deere 7R Series tractor has the greatest engine upgrade potential, up to 352 hp. If you don’t plan to buy the strongest version right away, you can get a Valtra S Series at a similar price, with 350 hp and some more bells and whistles. This time I point to this tractor not as the best choice to buy, but as a recommendation.

Massey Ferguson MF 8700.

If you need a very powerful tractor, the best choice is the Massey Ferguson MF 8700 . The basic version offers 350 hp for $250,000; when upgraded to 400 hp, you will pay $300,000. This is the best price-to-quality option in this category.

  1. You’ll get the same power for $317,000 with the Valtra S Series – but with this tractor you’ll have the ability to turn around the seat and have full control when driving backwards.

JCB Fastrac 8330.

Just like the JCB mid-range tractor, the Fastrac 8330 has the highest movement speed: 70km/h. Since this is a “luxury” class, for 100 hp more and maximum speed 5km/h higher, you pay as much as for two Fastrac 4220 tractors. This is another position that I partially advise against, because this model does not have four steering wheels .

Fendt 1000 Vario.

If you’re looking for the most powerful tractor at the lowest price, the only one that exceeds the magical 500 hp limit is the Fendt 1000 Vario – with an improved engine it generates 517 hp at a price of $369,000. In addition, it’s the fastest tractor (63 km/h) offering such power – every taller model with 500+ hp will drive only up to 43 km/h.

CaseIH Magnum Series.

The last of the models listed here is aimed at people who absolutely need to own a tracked tractor. The cheapest option is the CaseIH Magnum Series , with either 409 or 435 hp, which has a track drive, but only on the rear (after modifying the wheels). You will pay $341,000 for the basic tracked version. In addition:

  1. This is the fastest tractor (50/53 km/h) with tracks that you can buy,
  2. Equipping only the rear axle with tracks is not as effective in terms of turning radius as a vehicle with full tracks.
  3. Note, however, that other tracked tractors do not have a front attacher.

Trucks

The truck category contains five models of vehicles which are used exclusively for transport. They are characterized by high power (they can easily pull a number of trailers) and a fifth-wheel coupling, which enables a direct connection of large semi-trailers. In addition, no tractor can travel at 80km/h. If you don’t use a tractor for transport and you are tired of frequently driving things from the store across the whole map and long distances to the collection points, it will be a very good solution.

If you want to connect a semi-trailer with a fifth wheel coupling to a tractor, you can do it. Find a special dolly in the shop that serves as an adapter.

MAN TGS 18.500 4×4.

Which truck to choose? The MAN TGS 18.500 4×4 is potentially the best choice. The reason for this is the set of hooks at the rear of the vehicle, which will allow you to connect any available semi-trailer in the game to it.

Tatra Phoenix 6×6 Agro-Truck.

You can also purchase an upgrade for pin trailers (HDK/TDK series and sugarcane trailers) for Tatra Phoenix 6×6 Agro-Truck.

Pickups

Lizard Pickup 1978.

There are two pickup models available, which are the fastest vehicles in the game: they reach 120 km/h. You can use them to explore the area and the plots you want to buy, as well as for transport: on the cargo bed (they have the ability to attach the load with belts, so you don’t have to worry about losing the goods along the way), or you can attach some small (and not too heavy) trailers to them. If you start with a small amount of money, you can buy (or better lease) one of these vehicles to make it easier to play: on the bed you can transport even a pallet of seeds, or drive with a small trailer and collect the harvester’s yield.

  1. The more expensive model is more powerful, but has a less capacious cargo bed.
