In addition to mobile platforms, fans can experience the latest version of EA’s popular life simulator, The Sims 4, for up to 48 hours with EA Play before deciding if they want purchase the full version of the game. This article will discuss how EA legally allows players to experience The Sims free of charge.

The Sims series has been going strong for two decades, amassing over $5 billion dollars since the original debuted in 2000. Although Sims 4 released back in 2014, it’s still one of the most successful games with over 30 million players worldwide. This is largely due to the extra content through the many expansion packs and DLCs that continue to release years after the initial launch.

The Sims series can be enjoyed on a variety of platforms including computers, mobile devices, and console systems. The two free mobile downloads — The Sims Freeplay and The Sims Mobile — are available for iOS and Android systems. Players can grow their neighborhood and watch it thrive. The game released in 2011, so there is plenty of content that has accumulated over the years. It’s great for those who like to build, as players have access to multiple lots for creating many homes and families. It can take a while to advance in the game unless users are willing to spend actual money or time watching ads.

Similarly, The Sims Mobile game is also a free download that can be enjoyed at no cost, but includes in-app purchases. Its sim customization is more detailed, and it shares some assets with The Sims 4 as Maxis and EA worked on both titles. Players can also build and customize a home in The Sims Mobile — but just one — as the focus is placed more on a single household of up to four playable sims and their future generations.

In addition the the mobile games, EA boasts a “free” 48 hour demo for their biggest simulation hit, The Sims 4 with EA Play — formerly EA Access. EA Play is a subscription service for their digital distribution platform, but it does cost $4.99 a month. Those who are already subscribed can play the trial for no additional cost, and if they so choose, can purchase the game allowing all of their demo progress to carry over. This trial does not include any expansions or DLCs, but serves as a good intro to the standard version of the game.

Free downloads with microtransactions and a demo that requires a subscription service is as generous as EA currently is in terms of legally playing The Sims for free. Fans continue to enjoy EA’s games, as evidenced by Sims 4‘s popularity, and hopefully EA can provide more altruistic avenues in the future of Sims gaming.
